NASCAR Sprint Cup test focuses on changes in new G6 cars - Bettor

NASCAR Sprint Cup test focuses on changes in new G6 cars ? NASCAR news

The two-day NASCAR Sixth Generation Car test came to an early end on Wednesday because of rain. The initial reports are quite encouraging. Almost all the 16 drivers who participated seemed quite content with the performance of the new G6 cars.

The G6 cars are faster. Kasey Kahne who led both the morning and afternoon sessions was able to post a top speed of 193.771 mph which was a little faster than the track qualifying record, 193.708 mph, set by Greg Biffle in October. Kahne claims that he could have run the car faster than 200 mph.

This is what Kahne had to say about the new car that he will be racing in the 2013 Sprint Cup season. ?The car drives good, so it?s pretty easy to go fast right now and it?s like you?re qualifying each lap. The back of the car is way more comfortable than it has ever been.?

Denny Hamlin also experienced high speeds before his test ended when he crashed just 40 minutes after the start. Hamlin too was quite optimistic about the G6 car.

He predicted that the added speed of the new cars will lead to track records. ?In my mind, there will be no less than six or seven track records broken [in 2013],? said the Joe Gibbs Racing driver.

According to some drivers, the high speeds were a result of cooler temperatures, the later being very less likely to prevail when 43 cars are racing on a track instead of 16.

A different body style, increased rear camber, a bigger rear spoiler and removal of the rear sway bar are some of the improved features which led to an incredible grip and increased downforce in the new G6 cars.

Highlighting the better grip of the car, Joey Logano of Penske Racing said, ?The car allowed him to take a more aggressive line in the corners like he did with the Nationwide Series car.?

On Wednesday, drivers tested with both reduced horsepower and normal horsepower. This was because NASCAR had been considering reducing the horsepower by 200. The drivers preferred normal horsepower to reduced horsepower.

Hamlin said, ?My car had been reduced by 250 horsepower so I lagged behind the rest of the group. The package was not as good as normal horsepower.?

In order to finalise all the features of the G6 cars, these cars will again be put to test next month when most teams meet at Daytona International Speedway for a three-days test (Jan. 10 to Jan 12) and then again at the Charlotte Motor Speedway for a two-days testing session (Jan. 17 to Jan. 18).
