Tennis is nowadays single of the most well-liked sports all throughout the world. Nowadays being covered by large telecasting and sponsorship, tennis is considered one of the richest sport in the world. The game is played by millions of folks for recreation and amateur tournaments. Fans and tennis enthusiast emulate the games of notable players like Federer, Nadal, Agassi, and Sampras and the williams sister, Hinges, Navratilova, Graff and more. However how did this popular sport materialize? This sport is today on its unstoppable fame; it?s even becoming a competition about style.
How did the sport of tennis started and when and who first played it? On the 12th century, there was this game that the French invented where it was played in a court using their hands to hit the ball. (the game was called ?paume? which means palm). Paume changed to jeu de paume and rackets were used, the game widened and progressed in Europe. In 1873, a game called ?sphairistike? which means Playing ball? in Greek was created by W. Wingfield and was played on grass court in Wales. It was given the name ?sticky? at first and used in most books about the history of tennis, then it became known as ?lawn tennis?, from which the present outdoor tennis advanced.
Because of the need of players to demonstrate their outanding skills of tennis, both amateur and professional tournaments were created. Many tournaments are held in several countries throughtout the year which include the grand slams. One of the slam is called the US Open held in New York. It was in this tournament where the tie-break was introduced in 1970 to break the tie games between FD Robbins and Dick Bell that went on for 100 games. Another tennis grand slam is the Wimbledon played in Great Britain. Wimbledon was created because of its overwhelming popularity over croquet way back in 1875. Third is the French Open which was started way back 1891 but it was not until 1925 that it became international. And fourth is the Australian open which started in 1905.
Tennis sport did not stop there; it became so ever popular as we know it today to the point where it is also becoming a sport with the vogue. Players use assorted make tennis rackets, clothes, shoes, bags, and other tennis gear that players endorse. A number of of these equipments will cost you a few dollars to get a complete set of. Celebrities have embraced the sport of tennis making it sort of controversial with the way players live the same life style.
