A museum show opening this weekend in Newport News, Va. will focus on the story of two Americans who survived the deadly Costa Concordia catastrophe off the coast of Italy in January.
The Mariners? Museum?s new exhibition, Abandon Ship: Stories of Survival, presents the stories of Karen Kennedy and Rick Langlands, a couple from nearby Virginia Beach who were aboard the doomed cruise liner when it sank.
Among the artifacts in the show are the life vest that Kennedy wore and photographs taken by the couple during the evacuation. While Kennedy and Langlands survived, a Minnesota couple sadly perished in the tragedy, the only Americans to die on board.
The museum exhibit will also address other maritime disasters -- like the sinking of the Titanic and the 1982 sinking of Steven Callahan's Napoleon Solo sailboat -- and stories of survival and rescue on the high seas.
Guests will even have the chance to step into a six-person life raft to contemplate the experience of drifting through the vast ocean aboard a tiny vessel.
