Ten years ago Wednesday, a violent tornado struck the Oklahoma City metro area, leaving a 700-yard damage path.
The tornado developed in the late afternoon and?tracked 17 miles as it developed just west of I-35,?moved over I-35, I-240, and I-40.
The related images show the reflectivity and velocity image at the height of the storm.? Notice the?hook shape on reflectivity.?This represents an area of inflow where the tornado would be.
The velocity shows strong circulation. If you look at where Tinker is on the map, notice the "blob" of red and green next to each other. The red represents movement away from the radar and the green, toward.? This symbolizes an area of strong wind shear and in this case, tornado.
The last image shows the damage path. The EF 4 tornado left behind?major damage and injured 45 people.
